This experience was created to share the knowledge and joy that has accumulated over the past 11 years of getting our hands dirty in the infamous North East Austin clay soil. They hope others can discover new plants or feel inspired to start their own garden.

HOW IT STARTED

Michelle and Blake moved into the neighborhood in late summer of 2014. Like many first-time homeowners, they were eager to take on projects that would make the house feel like their own. Knowing they wanted to create a relaxing space in the backyard, things quickly took off from there.

After many sketches, rounds of trial and error, endless trips to Home Depot, Lowe’s, and local nurseries (not to mention a snow apocalypse and a few ice storms) they’ve established two mostly drought-tolerant, cold-hardy flower beds. Their backyard has become a source of creative energy, a bit of calm, and a welcoming little habitat for pollinators and all sorts of Texas critters.

ABOUT THE HOMEOWNERS

Michelle and Blake have called Austin home for over 15 years. Michelle is a visual and digital product designer whose work has been featured in national publications like Graphis, LogoLounge, PRINT, and HOW magazine. These days, her focus is on improving the home buying and selling experience through thoughtful design. Blake works as a Commercial Program Manager, leading a learning and development team that supports senior leadership through coaching, content, and training programs.

When they’re not working, you’ll find them in the garden, watching movies and tv shows, restoring their DeLorean, or checking out an amazing restaurant.
